The new Helsinki Central Library is a building entirely in wood, both in structure and facade. Like open books, vertical sun screens placed at different angles spread across the facade. The highly energy efficient volume has a compact shape in order to minimize energy loss. As a backdrop to the park, the wooden material and the vertical irregular rhythm on the facade, emphasize the connection to the park. Oriented to the south an inclined façade is covered with photovoltaic film bearing a print of the Finnish landscape.
