The City of Sundbyberg is planning to cover the railway tracks west of Sundbyberg's center, creating space for a new district center with housing, offices, retail, and preschools.
The city aimes for high density while enhancing Sundbyberg’s identity and qualities within the new area, which extends the city down to Bällstaån and Marabouparken. Within the project, the complexity of covering a railway track has been central, alongside issues related to cultural heritage, topography, and the importance of future-proofing a structure that will not be built for another 15-20 years. The master plan includes a variety types of urban spaces such as urban parks, squares, and a riverside promenade.
