Housing in Södra Värtan, Stockholm
First prize in an invited competition for housing in Stockholm
Our winning proposal for Veidekke’s section of the new neighbourhood Södra Värtan in Stockholm, consists of 73 attractive apartments in one of the city’s best locations. The main challenge of this site was to handle the noise from the harbour. The building contains housing units ranging from studios and one bedroom apartments up to 4 bedroom apartments.
The block is situated along the scenic quayside and offers open views towards the water. The façade silhouette will be visible from afar and will mark the threshold between harbor activity and the new neighbourhood. A shared roof garden provides sunny, shaded and sheltered areas for recreation and socializing in and around the pergola and communal space that is accessed from the roof. The wintergarden extends the season for gardening and outdoor activity. In this elevated area there is also space for a sauna with a view.
At ground floor, shopfronts face the pavement for a lively streetscape. A recycling room and communal workshop where the residents may fix bikes, do carpentry or repot plants, also fronts the street. Sightlines have been created between the waterside promenade, through the lobbies, and the garden within the block.
